Have you noticed how long the base symbology layer list is? If you are like me it gets annoying to try and find the layer you are looking for to symbolize from. Well today’s post will show you a couple of ways to shorten this list, but remember you may only want to remove the layers that you added.

- The first way is easy and you may know this, but you can edit the layer that contains the base symbology from the TOC and edit the map file. In the map file window just change “Use as Base Layer for Uploads” to NO and generate and save. This will remove the item from the list.

- The second way applies for a layer that is no longer in use (i.e.: deleted from the TOC or marked for deletion). With this predicament you are unable to go into the TOC and edit the layer. So there is a simple trick you can do.

- First go to the Admin tab (shown below) and click on "Map Layers".

- Once the new window has fully loaded, use Ctrl+F to open the find box. Type in the a key word to find the specific layer you need. Then click "edit" next to the layer to open a new window.

- Remove the base symbology by changing “Use as Base Layer for Uploads” to NO. Generate and save again.
